Invensys to ditch panel of law firms

Engineering giant Invensys is scrapping its panel of firms and hand-picking individual lawyers to work on different jobs.

Senior vice-president Jim Bays will co-ordinate a database of selected lawyers from firms around the world and circulate it around the company on its intranet.

Lawyers who advised either BTR or Siebe last year on their merger to form Invensys will be automatically included on the list.

Slaughter and May, Linklaters, Freshfields and Eversheds are among the firm's current advisers.

Linklaters corporate partner Steven Turnbull, Morgan Lewis & Bockius competition partner Izzet Sinan and Dr Gerhard Wegen of Gleiss Lutz Hootz Hirsch in Germany are likely to win a place on the database as they are among Bays' favourite lawyers.
