Heller fallout gifts Goodwin Procter London office

The continuing fallout from the collapse of US firm Heller Ehrman has gifted Boston-headquartered Goodwin Procter its first UK office.

Goodwin is taking US-qualified former Heller partners Bob Asher and Brian Smith and two other fee earners for its London launch. Both lawyers focus on the hospitality sector and real estate finance and have joined Goodwin effective today (24 October).

Smith relocated to London in 2007 for Heller while Asher was a recent arrival at his former firm, having only joined in January from the London office of Sidley Austin.

While at Sidley he handled a variety of hotel deals for clients such as Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and the Dorchester Group.

A spokesperson for Goodwin refused to comment.
