Anne Compton: Rickerbys

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
I expect one of my partners might tell you for a price.

Anne Compton: RickerbysWhat was your first-ever job?

What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Spending three hours getting from my flat in Acton to a hearing at the High Court on the morning following the 1987 hurricane, only to find that no one else had made it and all sittings were cancelled.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
The ladies’ loos – especially if no one sees you go into the cubicle.

What time do you usually leave the office?
Between 6.30pm and 7pm.

What do you do at weekends?
Walk my dogs, grow vegetables and plan my next holiday.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
Passione – Gennaro Contaldo’s restaurant on Charlotte Street, London.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
A very bad (and no doubt destitute) cello player.

Who’s your hero and why?
My PA – for smiling beautifully and keeping me sane.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Working in a team alongside people I respect, making a difference to how we do things around here.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
Trying to keep all the balls in the air.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
I expect one of my partners might tell you for a price.

Peugeot 307cc.

Watership Down by Richard Adams.

What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on?
There are so many, I couldn’t possibly pick between them.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?
I’m not really a luxury sort of person – just being stranded on a desert island would be enough for me.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
Away from the office on 20 July 2007 as Gloucestershire started to flood.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
48 hours.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?
Charlize Theron – once described as living proof that being tall and blonde still requires you to work as hard as everyone else.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman – I’d be too tempted to go off on an adventure.
