Case of the week

The RollingStones’ former record label, Abkco Music, lost a round in its battle over who owns the rights to two songs first recorded by blues legend Robert Johnson. The court found that the fact that the band believed that any common-law copyright on Love in Vain and Stop Breakin’ Down had expired, were not reasons that Abkco can cite in its fight with the current copyright holders. The court sent the case back to the USdistrict court in Los Angeles for further hearings.
