Camerons whips up sports store deal over night

CMS Cameron McKenna advised Sports Soccer on its multimillion pound acquisition of the Lillywhites Group. Ashurst Morris Crisp acted for the vendor, Portuguese company Jeronimo Martins.
Partner Richard Price led a small team at Camerons. They received the instruction at 6pm on a Monday and had a deal signed and sealed by 6am the following morning. He said: “You do quick deals occasionally, but they're not usually that quick. It required us really to think on our feet and that is what clients pay us to do.”
Sports Soccer is a longstanding client of Camerons. Price said that buying well-known name Lillywhites was one of the more high-profile deals he has handled for the client. He would not disclose the price paid for the company.
Ashursts partner Jan Sanders handled the sale. She said: “The way Camerons and Ashursts worked together was extremely efficient. It was a great effort by the lawyers.”
Sanders and Ashursts represented Jeronimo on its original £28.5m purchase of Lillywhites from Forte in 1995.
