Alleged TV rapist uses Davenports

In a rare move for a defendant media firm, Davenport Lyons is advising the TV presenter named by some newspapers as the alleged rapist of Ulrika Jonsson

At the time of going to press, no claim had been issued over his naming; but if he does, The Lawyer understands that Davenports, which acts for the likes of the Daily Mirror and the Daily Express, will give the case to another firm to avoid a conflict. Neither has he claimed against Jonsson, who is being represented by her long-term advisers Schillings.
It is understood that the case came to Davenport Lyons through the presenter's agent's relationship with the partner who is handling the case, Stuart Lockyear.
The Daily Mirror ran a story on 24 October stating that the TV presenter had been “identified as the man accused by Ulrika Jonsson of date rape”. The Daily Express's front page splash of the same day was a picture of the presenter with the headline, “I never raped Ulrika”.
Jonsson has not named her alleged rapist in her autobiography and was refusing to comment on the media storm.
