Abby Ewen: Simmons & Simmons

What’s the most boring thing you’ve been asked to do in your job?  In a previous firm I had to search through pages and pages of website activity in an attempt to spot anything ‘inappropriate’.  I didn’t.

What time do you start work each day?I start work in my ‘first’ job at 6.00 am when my 7 year old wakes me up by patting me on the arm to ask me if I am awake.

What’s the most boring thing you’ve been asked to do in your job?  In a previous firm I had to search through pages and pages of website activity in an attempt to spot anything ‘inappropriate’.  I didn’t.

How much time do you spend on Facebook each week? Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes less – I would rather talk to people on the phone or face to face.

What is the most unusual Christmas present that you have received from a colleague? I can’t remember –it is a long time since I received one.

If you could introduce one law, what would it be and why? It should be illegal and punishable with a large fine for people not to say thank you when you stop your car to let them pass.

How did you spend your last bonus?(If you have never received a bonus, how would you hope to spend it in the future)?  As the deposit on a car – in the future as the deposit on a faster, more expensive car.

What are the best perks of your role?  Having the opportunity to chair/speak at a strategic technology conference in Marbella is definitely a perk – although hard work too of course.

What do you wear on dress-down Fridays? The same as I wear every other day of the week – I don’t really do dress down.

Have you ever been asked to do anything at work that you suspect might have been illegal? Not that I am aware of.

What is the most irritating habit of any partner you’ve worked for?More amusing really – wearing different coloured shoes and going to lunch wearing my coat instead of his own.

How do you unwind after the end of a hard week?  Sleeping.

Do you see your colleagues on weekends?  A select few of them, yes.

Have you ever fallen in love at work? (If so, please provide details).  Yes, no thank you.

If you were a lawyer what would your practice area be and why? Probably family law, I think I would find it fascinating.

What do you eat for lunch?  Generally salad at my desk after I have come back from the gym.

Is your salary (in thousands) greater than your age?  Yes

What items do you always carry around with you at work?  My security pass and my BlackBerry, of course.

Who do you have photos of on your desk?  My son

Corney & Barrow or The Royal Exchange?  Royal Exchange – I hate the silly tall chairs in Corneys

Soy Latte or Nescafe?  Nescafe – I have very simple needs when it comes to coffee.

City break or weekend in the country?  Depends who I am with.

Sum up your firm, chambers or employer in three words.  Supportive, innovative, vibrant.
