13KBW votes in new head of chambers

•Roger Ellis QC has stepped down as head of chambers at personal injury set 13 King’s Bench Walk (13KBW), making way for Julian Baughan QC. Ellis, who was a founding member of the set in 1971, will continue at chambers, but decided to take a backseat to allow some “new blood” to take the reins. Baughan, who joined 13KBW almost two decades ago and was appointed silk in 1990, was the only candidate to stand as a successor to Ellis and was voted in by the set’s membership. Under Baughan’s direction the 57-barrister set, of which Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes is a member, will continue to grow its practice organically. Stuart Ritchie, a clerk at 13KBW, said: “Mr Ellis felt that, after eight years as the head of chambers, it was time to allow someone with fresh ideas who can keep the set moving forwards.”
