Scott & Scott

Scott + Scott’s London senior partner, Belinda Hollway, built the firm’s office from the ground up in 2015 – when it was only her and her computer. The team has since grown to 15, and is now taking on giant corporations in the Competition Appeal Tribunal as they fight for the consumer in some of the most hotly-anticipated class actions.

Hollway herself spent nine years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer on competition litigation cases before joining Scott + Scott, giving her unparalleled experience on the defence side. In December, her team secured the first-ever settlement in a £150m UK class action with one of the defendants in the case brought by Mark McLaren against five shipping companies. McLaren claims that millions of UK consumers and businesses overpaid for cars after shipping companies colluded to manipulate car delivery prices.

The most recent class action Holloway and her team have brought against Santander, Lloyds Banking Group, and Motonovo Finance is on behalf of Enfield Labour Councillor and consumer advocate Doug Taylor and is valued at £1bn. The team also represents a large group of claimants in the interchange fee umbrella proceedings against Visa and Mastercard, which heads for Trial 1 on liability issues in February.
