Former Harbottle & Lewis managing partner Lawrence Abramson has joined Fladgate’s media and entertainment practice.
Abramson was a litigation partner at Harbottle for 12 years and managing partner from 2005-08, representing clients in the music, television, film, publishing and sports industries.
Fladgate head of litigation Simon Ekins said: “His [Abramson] practice is an excellent fit with ours and we very much look forward to working with him to develop one of the leading media practices in the country.”
Abramson is Fladgate’s fourth lateral partner hire in the last year. The others are employment head Brian Palmer from Charles Russell (11 May 2009), tax specialist Huw Witty from Reed Smith, and real estate partner James Fry from Finers Stephens Innocent (26 October 2009).
Fladgate head of corporate Charles Wander said: “We have a strategy to develop various parts of the firm including commercial litigation. Lawrence is a high-profile litigator in the media world and a great catch for us.”
“We haven’t stopped hiring despite the recession,” he added. “The kind of people we’re bringing in are those lawyers with practices that have survived through very difficult times.
“We can’t just hold still – there may be a recession but lawyers are still developing thriving practices.”
Abramson said he was attracted by the firm’s ability to “advise pan-European media clients and to assist UK clients with European issues”.
