Setting a helpful precedent for famous logo brands, Lonsdale (the sports clothing brand) has won a UK trademark opposition against a ‘look-alike’ logo at the English High Court.

Ahmet Erol filed a UK trademark application for the logo in relation to clothing. Lonsdale opposed the application — based in particular on its earlier UK trademark registrations for the logos — on the grounds that: (a) there was a likelihood of confusion between the logos; and/or (b) the use of Erol’s logo would take unfair advantage of, and/or be detrimental to, Lonsdale’s logos.
