Legacy SJB real estate partner Ryland leaves for Paul Hastings

King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin (KWMSJB) has seen the first partner departure following its merger last Friday, with London real estate partner David Ryland leaving to join Paul Hastings.

Ryland, who has been in partnership with legacy SJ Berwin for 25 years, has joined Paul Hastings’ London office as a partner. His practice focuses on commercial real estate with a particular emphasis on UK and European property funds, property finance, hotel transactions and development.

The merger between King & Wood Mallesons and SJ Berwin took effective last Friday (1 November) (31 October 2013).

Prior to the tie-up, legacy SJ Berwin broadened the managerial lineup for its real estate group by adding two partners to the group’s leadership team (25 October 2013). The group is now led by London partner Bryan Pickup, who is also the global co-ordinator for real estate of the enlarged firm, London partner Edward Page and Madrid-based Enrique Isla, as the co-heads of international real estate sector group, and London duo William Boss and Simon Ricketts as co-heads of the London real estate group.

Ryland is the latest London-based partner to leave King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin. Two weeks ago, private equity partner Ed Harris decided to move to Hogan Lovells (22 October 2013).
