King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin names new management lineup as merger goes live

It is the first day of SJ Berwin’s $1bn merger with King & Wood Mallesons, a deal that has been a year in the making and that will eventually result in the rebranding of the now Asia headquartered firm.

We spoke to King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin global co-deputy chairman (yes, we know it’s a bit of a mouthful) Stephen Kon about his plans for global domination. Today the firm revealed the management team tasked with bringing that vision to life.

Let’s not forget that this was by no means a done deal, and management gathered partners in Marbella in June to talk about the future.

However, the merger process hasn’t all gone smoothly, with the odd partner departure. Kon says the exits have nothing to do with the tie-up.

Today is all about champagne and celebrations. The hard work will start next week.
