Weightmans’ half-year results beat expectations

North-west firm Weightmans’ turnover figure for the first six months of 2011-12 was up nearly 9 per cent on the same time last year at £38.3m.

Weightmans exceeded its half-year target of £38m, billing £38.3m. That figure was up 8.9 per cent on the previous year’s £35.2m half-year figure, which was some way short of the firm’s £37.1m target.

Weightmans’ turnover in 2011-12 was £77.1m, up 32.5 per cent on the previous year when it was £58.2m (9 May 2012). During the 2011-12 financial year, Weightmans bedded in its merger with Mace & Jones (22 March 2011) and its acquisition of Vizards Wyeth’s insurance practice (8 March 2011).

According to managing partner Patrick Gaul said that the expansion had given the firm more capability and credibility in corporate transactions, real estate and employment work. Gaul also singled out his firm’s employment department as one of the star performers in the first half of the 2012-13 financial year.

“The employment team has really turned things around,” said Gaul, who was predicting a steady second half of the year. “The construction and real estate teams also had a really good first six months while insurance, which is our firm’s heritage, remains busy.”
