Squire Sanders hires DLA regulated procurement specialist

Squire Sanders has hired DLA Piper’s head of regulated procurement as a regulatory partner in its Birmingham office.

Steven Norris, who has advised the Olympic Delivery Authority, the London 2012 Olympic Games, Transport for London and the UK Department of Health on a range of projects and initiatives, joined the firm’s Birmingham office this month.

Norris’s hire brings Squire Sanders’ total number of regulatory partners to 31 globally and he is one of four regulatory partners working out of the UK. His appointment makes him the first regulatory partner based in Squire Sanders’ Birmingham office.

Although based in Birmingham, Norris is expected to play an instrumental role in expanding the firm’s global procurement practice and will spend a considerable amount of time in the firm’s London and Washington DC offices.

The appointment follows Squire Sanders’ announcement in late December that it had made two lateral hires in its London office to boost its finance offering there (19 December 2012).

Commenting on Norris’s appointment, Squire Sanders regulatory practice head Joe Markoski said: “His appointment is an important strategic step in the development of our global procurement practice, both in terms of advising on outward bound investment from countries such as China and the US into Europe, as well as assisting clients from those jurisdictions with their own procurement regimes.”

Norris added: “I’m excited to join Squire Sanders. The firm has excellent people and I look forward to working with them to develop a world-class global procurement practice.”

It is understood that DLA Piper has not yet appointed a replacement for Norris.
