Litigation boutique Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has continued a year of international expansion with an office opening in Brussels.
The office will be led by partner Nadine Herrmann, who joined Quinn Emanuel in 2012 from Allen & Overy to launch the US firm’s Hamburg office (1 May 2012). Herrman will divide her time between the Brussels and Hamburg offices along with competition lawyers Catherine Manley and Jan Jacob.
By targeting Brussels, Quinn is honing in on EU litigation. Herrmann said: “Brussels is the de facto capital of the European Union. We believe a Brussels office is essential to effectively represent clients before the European Commission and before the union courts.
“It will provide an excellent platform from which to expand our competition practice.”
In the past few years Quinn Emanuel has opened European offices in Mannheim (23 February 2010), Hamburg and Moscow (19 October 2011). The firm has also been hiring extensively in the arbitration field, including Allen & Overy’s global arbitration head Stephen Jagusch (9 May 2012).
Further afield, the firm opened in Hong Kong and Sydney in May 2013 (10 May 2013). Herbert Smith Freehills partners Michael Mills and Michelle Fox took up the reins in Sydney, while senior arbitrator John Rhie, formerly at leading South Korean commercial firm Kim & Chang, leads the Hong Kong office and is head of Asian arbitration.
