The government has published its response to the consultation on the administration of the new shared parental leave and pay system to be introduced in 2015. The response confirms the final details of how the new system will operate in practice.
In November 2012 the government published its response to the parental leave elements of the Modern Workplaces Consultation and confirmed that a new system of shared parental leave would be introduced in 2015 under which parents (or the mother and her partner) could choose to share up to 50 weeks’ shared parental leave (SPL) and 37 weeks’ shared parental pay (SPP), in place of the mother taking maternity leave and receiving maternity pay.
