Digital arm of CBS names first-ever inhouser in China

CBS Interactive, the digital arm of US television network CBS, has named its first-ever in-house counsel in China with the hire of Daisy Wei to the role of director of legal.

Wei, who joins CBS Interactive China from Beijing-based firm Han Kun Law Offices, will be based in Beijing and report to Julia Apostle, director of legal operations at CBS Interactive International.

While at Han Kun Law Offices Wei’s practice focused on corporate finance, M&A and foreign direct investment, with clients including GE Capital Equity, Sequoia Capital and Legend Capital. A member of both the New York Bar and the Bar of the People’s Republic of China, Wei has also worked in the legal departments of Asiainfo Technologies (China) and Beijing Xiongcai Educational Service Company.

A spokesperson for the company said no other hires are expected to follow Wei’s appointment in the near future, with Wei joining as the first in-house counsel in China.

Darin Bassin, executive vice president and general counsel for CBS Interactive, said in a statement: “China is an important and fast-growing business for us, and Daisy will be a tremendous resource in helping the international group optimise business opportunities in China.”

Evercore, Skadden and Shearman & Sterling are all understood to be on the panel of CBS Corp but a spokesperson for the company had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing. The company’s general counsel is Louis Briskman.
