Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has won the lead role for Mars on its $23bn (£11.63bn) bid for Wrigley in a deal that will create the world’s largest confectionery company. Previously Mars has turned to Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom for M&A advice. On this deal Skadden is already involved, with Chicago partner Bill Kunkel leading the team advising longstanding client Wrigley. Paul Hastings corporate partner Charles Baker represented financial adviser JPMorgan.
A&O, freshfields act on hbos rights issueHBOS has called in magic circle firm Allen & Overy (A&O) to advise on its £4bn rights issue. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is advising the brokers and underwriters Morgan Stanley and Dresdner Kleinwort after having also bagged the underwriters adviser role on the record £12bn Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) rights issue. A&O’s HBOS relationship partner Alistair Asher is working alongside corporate partner David Broadley. Freshfields’ team is led by corporate partner Simon Witty, who is also leading the RBS team advising underwriters Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and UBS.
