Morgan Lewis & Bockius is losing one of its haul of ex-Brobeck Phleger & Harrison partners after little more than a year to White & Case’s West Coast operation.
Larry Engel, a highly rated bankruptcy and restructuring partner, joined Morgan Lewis in February 2003 when the firm rescued around 150 lawyers from unemployment after Brobeck collapsed under millions of dollars worth of debt.
Since then Engel had been involved in managing the repercussions of Brobeck’s demise as a member of the firm’s liquidation committee. White & Case has two offices on the West Coast, Palo Alto and San Francisco, and Engel is expected to move to his new firm in the next two weeks.
A spokesman at Morgan Lewis said: “We wish him well.”
White & Case was unavailable for comment.
