The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has recruited Karena Vleck from Farrer & Co as the organisation’s new in-house lawyer and company secretary.
The RFU role became vacant when former head John Hall moved to the Football Association (FA).
Vleck was head of the sports department at Farrers. She has been replaced by the firm’s senior partner Robert Clinton.
Vleck has previously worked with the RFU. She was independent counsel to the inquiry into bribery allegations surrounding the non-promotion of champions Rotherham two years ago.
Vleck will report to chief executive Francis Baron and the RFU management board. She will be responsible for the disciplinary function, all legal issues and contracts, and ensuring compliance with International Rugby Board rules and regulations.
Clinton takes charge of a 16-lawyer sports group at Farrers. The practice advises rights holders such as UK Athletics, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the FA.
