Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker’s has bagged an Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe partner for its Tokyo office.
Etsuo Doi has joined Paul Hastings from Orrick, where he was a partner in its Tokyo office.
Doi has experience in global intellectual property disputes and transactions and covers a broad range of practice areas including M&A and general corporate finance work.
Paul Hastings’ partner and Tokyo office chair said in a statement: “Etsuo’s extensive experience in intellectual property and M&A will enable Paul Hastings to broaden and deepen the level of service we provide to our clients in the region.”
Earlier this month, the planned merger between Dewey Ballantine and Orrick was abandoned amid wrangling over management control, ending one of the most anticipated combinations of the year. (8 January thelawyer.com).
In the run up, the pending merger suffered a number of setbacks as a number of key Dewey partners left the firm.
These included the firm’s co-chair of its restructuring and bankruptcy practice, partner Ben Hoch, M&A star partner Jack Bodner, who represented Lottomatica recently in its $5bn (£2.8bn) acquisition of Gtech Holdings and restructuring partner Dianne Coffino.
