Allen & Overy (A&O) has beefed up its US restructuring group after hiring lawyers from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and King & Spalding.
Angela Somers joins as special counsel from Cadwalader, where she worked in the New York-based restructuring group representing debtors, official creditors and equity committees and other parties in Chapter 11 filings.
Former King & Spalding lawyer John Kibler joins the magic circle firm’s New York office as special counsel. His practice focuses on representing corporate debtors, liquidating trustees and debtor-in-possession lenders.
A&O New York restructuring head Ken Coleman said: “John and Angela are highly talented and experienced restructuring lawyers who’ll add depth to our leading practice.”
A&O New York head Kevin O’Shea is known to want restructuring to be a core part of the firm’s growth strategy. The magic circle firm also hopes to expand its securities litigation and IP practice groups in the US.
