BBC 2 is holding a mock trial this week over three days (3-5 August). Real barristers – Rebecca Poulet QC and Christopher Sallon QC – will fight out the case of a fictional detective accused of blackmail. The programme will also follow the deliberations of the jury.

On Thursday Ashurst Morris Crisp assistant Jeremy Goodwin will swim 1344 lengths of Broadgate Club swimming pool – the equivalent distance to swimming the channel – in order to raise money for The Royal Marsden Hospital's leukemia unit. Goodwin had a bone marrow transplant there after he was diagnosed as suffering from the disease. There is still time to sponsor the event. Ring Gavin Gordon at Ashursts on: 0171 972 7691.
