White & Case strengthens mining team with in-house hire

White & Case has added to its presence in the mining sector with the appointment of BHP Billiton lawyer Rebecca Campbell as a partner in its London office.

Campbell joins the US firm after several years at Australian resources giant BHP Billiton, where she was most recently responsible for acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures in the northern hemisphere. She previously worked in private practice at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy’s New York office and at Freehills in Melbourne.

Her appointment follows last year’s hire of Freehills partner John Tivey to lead White & Case’s global mining and metals industry group (26 June 2012).

In a statement Tivey said Campbell’s experience would make her a “fantastic asset” for the firm and its clients.

White & Case has recently acted on a number of major mining projects, including advising Turquoise Hills Resources on the $10bn Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine project in Mongolia, on phase II of the Emirates Aluminium smelter project in Abu Dhabi, and majority shareholder Ivanplats on Itochu Corporation’s increased participation in the $3.5bn Platreef platinum-nickel-palladium-gold-copper-rhodium project in South Africa.
