Stephenson Harwood raids McGrigors

Stephenson Harwood is reinforcing its financial services capability with the hire of a corporate partner from McGrigors.

John Buyers joins Stephenson Harwood in the firm’s commercial, outsourcing and technology group.

His experience includes acting for a major European bank on what was at the time Poland’s largest IT deal, the merger of two Polish banks. He has also advised on several Financial Services Authority (FSA) compliant technology deals.

Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Buyers was a partner at McGrigors, after spending time at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and in-house at Elonex. He is dual-qualified in England and Ireland.

Buyers said his background fitted naturally with his new firm’s strengths in the financial services sector.

Stephenson Harwood chief executive Sunil Gadhia said: “We are focusing more and more on the financial services sector and we have a very strong banking client base where we do a lot of technology and outsourcing-related work. John’s expertise and relationships fit that profile.”

The hire comes towards the end of what is expected to be a strong financial year for Stephenson Harwood, which last year recorded turnover of £58.6m.
