Special Report: Energy

There is now a consensus that climate change is not just something dreamed up by Al Gore and that its impact would be extremely disruptive.

There is now a consensus that climate change is not something just dreamed up by Al Gore and that its impact would be extremely disruptive.

There has been less progress, however, on establishing which technologies and changes of energy consumption are needed in order to tackle it effectively and quickly.

Law firms such as DLA Piper have been proactive in sharing best practice, with initiatives such as the Legal Sector Alliance. Others are involved in advising on legislative change to facilitate low carbon solutions to all our energy needs.

Hunton & Williams and Norton Rose are acting for the Crown Estate on its third wave of offshore wind, for example, while a host of firms is backing potential bidders on the UK’s projected nuclear programme.

Carbon capture and storage is another option, as this Energy Special Report explains, but there are considerable regulatory issues that will need to be ironed out if it is to become commercially viable.
