Sonnenschein opens in Dallas

Chicago-headquartered Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal has launched a new office in Dallas, Texas.

The office will be led by Matthew Orwig, US attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, who will join the firm on 1 June 2007 to serve as Dallas managing partner and national chair of Sonnenschein’s government litigation and investigations group.

Joining him as partners are Matthew Yarbrough, head of the cyberlaw practice at Boston-based IP specialist Fish & Richardson, and employment lawyer David Cowart, who joins from Texas firm Jenkens & Gilchrist, which collapsed last month (www.thelawyer.com, 30 March 2007).

The Dallas office will focus on intellectual property litigation, government litigation and investigations, health care compliance and ERISA (a US law on pension rights).

Orwig said: “We anticipate adding other extremely talented attorneys soon and aggressively expanding our capabilities.”

Orwig joined the Department of Justice as an assistant US attorney in 1989 and was appointed US attorney for the Eastern District of Texas in 2001. During his tenure, he served on subcommittees of the attorney general’s advisory committee including the white-collar fraud subcommittee and the healthcare fraud working group.
