Slaughters best friend in Singapore tie-up

Slaughter and May’s Australian best friend firm Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR) is to expand into the Singapore market after brokering a joint-venture deal with local firm TSMP Law Corporation.

Announced today (24 April), the joint entity will operate under the name Allens Arthur Robinson TSMP from 1 June. The combined office will offer about 50 lawyers focused predominately on corporate matters.

The announcement of the joint venture comes shortly after Slaughters, which has an existing relationship with AAR, revealed it was extending its best friends group of law firms into Asia having hosted a meeting between the firms in March.

AAR has an extensive South East Asia network including offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Phnom Penh, Port Moresby and Shanghai. It also opened offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, last year.

The Australian firm also has four partners in its Singapore office. TSMP, meanwhile, has 15 directors, the equivalent to partners, in Singapore.

The combination will be managing partner Tom Poulton’s final legacy before handing over the reins to litigation head Michael Rose on 1 July, after a decade in the role.

Earlier this month, AAR announced its largest intake of new partners since 2001, promoting 12 lawyers into its partnership across five offices, including Melbourne, Bangkok and Beijing.
