Salans wins £800K costs from Saatchi Gallery eviction victory

Salans has obtained £800,000 in costs from the High Court after its victory in ousting the Saatchi Gallery from London’s County Hall.

London senior partner Lionel Rosenblatt was acting for County Hall owners and landlords Shirayama Shok-usan Company and Cadogan Entertainment Investments in the claim against the gallery and owners Danovo.

On 21 October Sir Donald Rattee ordered the gallery’s eviction after finding Danovo had broken the terms of its lease and trespassed on space it had not been let. Danovo now has to pay £832,400 in damages by 6 December and the £800,000 of costs by 13 December. It also has to pay its own legal fees.

The gallery closed on 16 November and will move to Chelsea next year. Cadogan is seeking new tenants.

Rosenblatt instructed Maitland Chambers’ Christopher Pymont QC. Tarlo Lyons partner Sarah Rees, instructing Jonathan Gaunt QC of Falcon Chambers, acted for Danovo.
