Peter Crisp, dean of BPP

Crisp

What was your first-ever job?

Delivering the post at Christmas for the Royal Mail.

What was your worst experience as a pupil?

Sitting on a train bound for Brentwood and realising, on studying the paperwork more closely, I should have been on a train to Brentford.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Otto’s on Grays Inn Road (Canard de Rouen à la Presse is the house speciality).

What’s your favourite film?

Les Enfants du Paradis.

What do you do at weekends?

Work in the garden, walk the dogs.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?

A gardener.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Seasons in the Sun, by Terry Jacks.

What’s your biggest career mistake and what did you learn?

Dithering about whether to go to the bar. Time waits for no man.

What book are you reading?

The Winter Vault, by Anne Michaels.

What’s your favourite children’s book?

Five Go To Smuggler’s Top, by Enid Blyton

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Cruella de Vil. For obvious reasons to any dog lover.

What’s’ the longest you’ve worked without sleep?

Thirty-six hours.

What’s the most exciting case you’ve worked on?

A boundary dispute on a boggy farm in Kent. I learnt the importance of a sense of perspective and the value of wellies on a site visit.

What’s the worst law school conference location you’ve experienced and why?

Chelsea FC. I loathe football.

If a movie was being played about your life, who would feature in it and why?

Rupert Everett: tall and handsome. Someone might be fooled.

If you were stranded on a desert island which two luxury items would you take?

Arthur and Henry, my miniature dachshunds.

Who’s your hero and why?

My pupil master Nigel Thomas who taught me that true courage is grace in adversity.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order):

I’ve visited all the ‘stans’ of Central Asia; at school I played drums in a group called The Tin Gods; I’ve climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
