Simmons & Simmons has hired a real estate partner from Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), its seventh partner hire from BLP in less than a year.

Move of the week

Real estate partner John Kelsey, who is also joint head of BLP’s hotels group and part of the restructuring and insolvency team, is set to join Simmons’ London real estate team as a partner. Kelsey’s move follows that of corporate insurance partner Pollyanna Deane, who moved from BLP to Simmons in December 2011, and the five-partner finance team that joined Simmons from BLP in May 2011.

UK

London

Anand Damodaran has joined Ropes & Gray as a partner in its private investment funds group. Damodaran was a senior associate at White & Case.

National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed Jayne Schnider as a corporate real estate partner in its business legal services team. She joins from Taylor Wessing, where she was a corporate partner.

Pemberton Greenish has promoted Anna Favre to partner, effective from 1 April. Favre joined the firm in 2007 and has experience in leasehold enfranchisement and residential landlord and tenant.

Senior counsel Elshad Huseynov has moved to Berkeley Law from Deloitte. Trainee lawyer Lydia Lavrova has also joined the London-based law firm, which specialises in wealth advice for high-net-worth individuals in the UK and overseas.

Reed Smith has netted financial regulatory and commodity trading expert Chris Borg as a partner. He leaves the financial markets and regulatory group at SNR Denton, where he was also a partner.

Bevan Brittan has appointed a new partner to join its national procurement team. Elizabeth Cooper joins the firm from her previous role at Nabarro, where she was also a partner. 

Manchester-based Pannone has appointed Alan Collins as a solicitor in its London office to develop its personal injury work. He joins from Verisona in Portsmouth, where he was a partner-director.

German firm Luther has appointed Tobias Verlende to head its London office. Verlende is qualified in both German and English law. He will join Luther as international counsel, having been head of the London office at Brinkmann & Partner since 2009.

King & Spalding has boosted its London office with the hire of two litigation partners from Bird & Bird. Jane Player and Sarah Walker are both partners in Bird & Bird’s London international disputes team, with Player serving as joint head of the practice. Their hire brings King & Spalding’s London partner headcount to 15.

North

Yorkshire-based firm Williamsons has recruited assistant solicitor Emma Dann to cover Hull Magistrates’ Court. She trained at Eversheds and had a spell at the CPS.

Europe

Wolf Theiss has made four partner promotions – Sven Hollmann, Ciprian Glodeanu, Luka Tadic Colic and Benjamin Twardosz.

Cartels lawyer Julian Joshua has joined Shearman & Sterling’s Brussels office as of counsel. He joins from Steptoe & Johnson, where he was also a partner.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has hired Guido Hoffmann as a partner, the fourth partner to join the firm so far this year. From 2005 to 2011, Hoffmann worked as a lawyer at Clifford Chance in Düsseldorf and currently works at SZA Schilling Zutt & Anschütz in Frankfurt. He joins Heuking as an equity partner, based between Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. 

OPF Partners has announced that Christel Dumont and Yann Hilpert have been promoted to partners. Dumont will specialise in civil and commercial, real estate, and restructuring and insolvency matters. Hilpert is a partner in the banking and finance practices. Both are based in Luxembourg.

US

McDermott Will & Emery has named transactions lawyer Alan D’Ambrosio as a partner in its corporate advisory practice group. He will specialise in cross-border transactions and work in the Milan and Rome offices. D’Ambrosio was previously a senior partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Winston & Strawn has hired corporate and securities attorney Robert Rawn as a partner at its New York office. He joins the firm from Bryan Cave, where he was also a partner.

DLA Piper has hired White & Case funds partner Richard Reilly for its New York office. Reilly is currently a partner in White & Case’s London office.

Asia-Pacific

Piper Alderman has welcomed Lexia Wilson to the firm’s Sydney office as a partner in the property and projects division. She was previously a partner at Norton Rose’s Sydney office.

Yuet Ming Tham has been recruited by Sidley Austin’s Hong Kong office as a partner in its arbitration, litigation and regulatory group. Tham was hired from DLA Piper, where she was a partner and head of the Asia regulatory compliance and investigation group.

Indian law firm J Sagar Associates has brought two partners on board in the shape of Pallavi Bedi from Mayer Brown in London and Rupinder Malik from Baker & McKenzie in Thailand.

Covington & Burling has hired corporate lawyer William Park from local Korean firm Apex to oversee its Seoul launch. Park will initially become a partner in Covington’s San Francisco office and relocate to Seoul once approval is granted. He spent the first 10 years of his career practising in the US, first with Latham & Watkins and later at his own law firm Kwak Kim & Park in Los Angeles.

Simmons & Simmons has secured the services of partner Lesli Ligorner, former co-chair of Paul Hastings’ international employment law practice, for its Shanghai base.
