Latham raids Mayer Brown for tax litigator

Latham & Watkins has continued its recent hiring spree with the lateral hire of leading tax litigator Roger Jones from Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw.

Jones, whose experience includes tax controversy representations involving the Internal Revenue Service, joins Latham’s Chicago office as a partner in the tax department. He had previously been at Mayer Brown’s Chicago office for 18 years, 13 of which were as a partner.

Jones’ hire follows a string of lateral hires for Latham across the US, including doubling its Washington DC-based antitrust litigation practice to six partners last month with the hire of Margaret ‘Peggy’ Zwisler, William Sherman and Eric McCarthy from Howrey.

Fellow Howrey antitrust partner Charles Samel has also joined Latham as a partner in the Los Angeles office, along with former Sullivan & Cromwell partner
Steven Stokdyk, who joined the LA office as a corporate partner.

Other recent appointments include Stephen Swinton who joined the litigation team in San Diego from Cooley Godward and Matthew Brill who joined the communications practice group in Washington DC from the Federal Communications Commission.
