Shearman & Sterling has lost its former London arbitration head to US rival Arnold & Porter.
David Reed, who became Shearman’s first arbitration partner in London when he moved from to the City from Paris in 2005, will join Arnold & Porter’s arbitration group at an unconfirmed date.
The Washington-based firm posted one of the largest increases in turnover during this year’s US firm reporting season (12 February 2012), notably advising the management and standards committee of News Corporation on issues surrounding the News of the World phone-hacking case.
Shearman international arbitration head Emmanuel Gaillard said of Reed’s exit: “It’s an amicable situation. He’s a very good lawyer and a good friend.
“Our plan in London is to grow the group very significantly in the next three years – double or possibly triple through a combination of lateral hires and internal promotions”
Arnold & Porter was unavailable for comment.
