City firms meet ‘Gifted and Talented’ youngsters at Lawyer 2B event

The Lawyer’s sister magazine Lawyer 2B is today holding a careers event for promising A-Level students at state sixth-form colleges who are interested in training as solicitors or barristers.

The two-day diversity event, now in its fifth year, is being held at BPP Business School in London.

Law firms participating in the event include Baker & McKenzie, Bircham Dyson Bell, Clifford Chance, Forsters, Linklaters, Macfarlanes and Slaughter and May.

The Bar Council is also attending.

The Lawyer 2B careers day is aimed at ‘Gifted & Talented’ Year 12 A-level students and was last year attended by more than 250 students from around 30 schools and colleges.

Aside from giving the firms involved the chance to potentially pick future lawyers from a more diverse pool than they would normally look at, it also gives the students the opportunity to discover exactly what firms look for in potential recruits.

Past events have highlighted that many students do not realise that studying law as a first degree is not the only route to becoming a lawyer.
