The round is slightly up on last year, when 21 made the grade (4 April 2011).

A total of 73 per cent of the new partners are based outside London, with six City associates gaining promotion.

Nine associates have been made up in banking, the practice area with the most promotions, alongside four in corporate, four in capital markets, three in litigation, two in competition and one in employment.

Outside London, the biggest promotions round was in Paris, where three were added to the partnership, while Amsterdam and New York enjoyed two upgrades each.

The firm said it was the fifth year running in which most promotions were outside the UK and said 40 per cent of the new partners were female.

Managing partner Wim Dejonghe commented in a statement: “The retention of our female lawyers through to partnership remains one of our key priorities and it is great to see us continue to retain such talent through to partnership. I’d like to congratulate all 23 new partners on reaching such an important milestone, and look forward to working with them to continue to grow the business.”
