Linklaters’ former Portuguese managing partner quits for VdA

Portuguese firm Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA) has appointed Linklaters’ former local managing partner Jorge Bleck as a partner and head of M&A and corporate finance.

Bleck officially joined VdA on 1 September after 11 years at Linklaters, where he helped found the firm’s Lisbon office.

Bleck headed up Linklaters’ Portugal operations for four years, handing over to finance head Pedro Siza Vieira in 2006 (19 June 2006). He was later elected to the magic circle firm’s international management board, stepping down last year (22 May 2012).

He practises corporate and finance law, acting on a number of privatisations in recent years as well as many IPOs and mergers.

Bleck will work alongside partners Helena Vaz Pinto and Paulo Barros Baptista in particular, as well as VdA managing partner João Vieira de Almeida who will focus more on his management role from now on.

Vieira de Almeida said in a statement that Bleck would play a “significant role” in VdA’s institutionalisation.

“The legal market has not proved immune to the effects of the crisis but his arrival reflects a strong belief in Portugal’s economic recovery and we expect to make a strong return on our investment, not least in being able to capitalise on the qualities Jorge brings as a lawyer and leader,” Vieira de Almeida added.
