European Commission launches wide-ranging review of EU copyright - .PDF file.
The European Commission has launched a public consultation in support of its review of the EU copyright regime. The core aim of the review is ‘to ensure that the system of rights, limitations to rights and enforcement remains appropriate and is adapted to the new [digital] environment.’
The consultation is open until 5 February 2014, with the European Commission expecting to complete its review in spring 2014.
It is a wide-ranging consultation, suggesting that most things are up for grabs in EU copyright — even the term of copyright and registration of works. One thing that isn’t though, at least at the moment, is establishing a single EU copyright title; this is described as a ‘long-term’ project…
