Ulrich Reese, a healthcare and life sciences partner from Freshfields’ Düsseldorf office, is taking a counsel and an associate with him to Clifford Chance, according to German magazine Juve.
Reese, who was an equity partner at Freshfields, is the latest of a string of defections at the firm after a year’s worth of restructuring.
Last week, Freshfields’ German operations lost corporate partner Thomas Schmuck to US firm Dewey Ballantine, and litigation partner Gunhild Schäfer left to pursue a career as a civil litigator at Germany’s highest civil court. It is understood that Reese was not a target of the restructuring.
Meanwhile, litigation counsel Antonio Vázquez-Guillén joins Clifford Chance’s Madrid office as a partner from Allen & Overy (A&O). Vázquez-Guillén has also spent time as a Spanish governmental lawyer.
