US firm Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker has boosted its Paris projects team with a four-lawyer raid on Ashurst.
Paul Hastings has made Ashurst senior lawyers Pascal Cuche and Marc Lordonnois partners in its Paris office, and hired two associates. Their practice encompasses public law and infrastructure deals, and focuses particularly on public private partnerships (PPP). Clients include contractors, public authorities, banks and investment funds.
John Hawkins, global head of Paul Hastings’ projects team, said: “The burgeoning PPP sector in France and Europe requires lawyers with a great depth of infrastructure finance expertise. We continue to make strategic acquisitions of leading practitioners to our projects practice in the US, Asia and Europe.”
Paul Hastings hopes that the new team will increase the amount of work coming in from emerging markets as French contractors look abroad for new opportunities.
Jonathan Simpson, European projects chief, said: “It will immediately boost our cross-border PPP practice, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe but also in the US and Asia where French contractors are becoming increasingly more active.”
A spokesperson for Ashurst said: “It’s been quite amicable. Two of them have gone and been promoted to partnership at Paul Hastings. It is is a good career move for them and we wish them good luck for the future.”
