Senior clerk Douglas Neave has resigned from Brick Court Chambers, the chambers of Attorney General Sir Nicholas Lyell, in what head of chambers Christopher Clarke QC described as an "amicable parting of the ways".
Clarke added that the tenants were sorry to see Neave go after more than five years as senior clerk.
Neave was with the leading commercial set as senior clerk for over five years and is understood to have left over the weekend of 20 April.
But his departure has been met with surprise by other clerks. A senior clerk at a rival commercial set said it was rare for a clerk to resign and leave over a weekend period when the resignation was "amicable".
Neave was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
His role will be split between existing clerks Julian Hawes and Ian Moyler.
The well-known commercial set also houses Sydney Kentridge QC and Jonathan Sumption QC.
