KPMG International has announced its first UK-based general counsel, bringing in senior Linklaters corporate partner Tom Wethered.
John Shutkin, based at the accountancy firm’s headquarters in Maryland, New Jersey, previously covered the role, but has recently joined Shearman & Sterling as its general counsel.
As well as advising KPMG International, Wethered will work closely with the firms that operate under KPMG International, which all have legal departments. Wethered will take up his position on 1 November.
Meanwhile, Linklaters has unveiled details of the reorganisation of its London corporate department. Within the four London groups, 10 partners will move around in a bid to balance out the 48-partner department. David Barnes will take over as leader of one of the four groups following Wethered’s departure.
Barnes had been head of one of the four units until March, when Matthew Middleditch took over. Other group heads include Jeremy Parr and Derek McMenamin. Head of corporate David Cheyne sits above all of the groups.
