Ashurst boosts Spain and Germany

Ashurst has bolstered its German finance practice and Spanish corporate capability with the hire of two partners from Norton Rose and Clifford Chance.

Tom Beckerhoff, a former partner at Norton Rose, joins the firm’s Frankfurt office as a finance partner, while María José Menéndez joins from Clifford Chance as a corporate partner in Madrid. Her hire bolsters the Madrid office, which opened in 2001, to six partners.

Ashurst has also hired energy and projects specialist Philip Thomson in London. He joins the firm’s energy, transport and infrastructure practice as a partner from Linklaters where he was a senior associate.

The hires reinforce the firm’s ambitions to grow its European practice, particularly within the corporate M&A sector.

They come hot on the heals of the appointments last month of Clyde & Co‘s former corporate head David Page as a financial institutions partner and former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer senior associate Fraser Wood as a structured finance partner in London.
