Wragges to advise on Zambian rail network

The firm's rail team is advising on two other high profile deals in Africa: Indian company Bombarier's Gaut-rain project in South Africa, and the concession of the Ressano Garcia line in Mozambique.
The Ressano Garcia project is also for New Limpopo Investments, the preferred bidder on the freight concession in the Zambian rail deal. Wragges approached New Limpopo and consortium member Spoornet speculatively and was awarded both projects.
The Zambian consortium will run and maintain the country's rail system for 20 years. The passenger concession will be awarded shortly.
Wragges partner Michael Whitehouse, who is leading the deal, said: “The most difficult thing is to make this a bankable concession that can be financed in an emerging market.”
