Edge Ellison's head of energy is joining Salans Hertzfeld & Heilbronn to take advantage of its global coverage.
Rory Tait is joining Salans as a senior solicitor.
Tait says that he wants to become part of a more global set-up. “The area in which I work has been becoming global for some time, so my clients were starting to need advice overseas.
“At Edge Ellison, it was very much a domestic operation so I was looking to move into a more international set-up. Salans certainly seems to fit the bill,” he says.
Tait says that he will take the majority of his clients to his new firm.
He says: “I consider them very much as my personal clients anyway, with whom I have built up a relationship over a number of years.”
His decision to leave comes just four months after Edge Ellison became the UK's second member of the International Lawyers Network, following Memery Crystal. (The Lawyer, 21 February).
Tait will work closely with the firm's existing project finance capability across its network of offices, particularly in central and eastern Europe region and the Commonwealth Independent States.
James Retallack, managing partner at Edge Ellison, refused to comment on Tait's departure.
Tait's exit comes at a time of uncertainty for the firm as it undergoes a costs review which could lead to a number of job losses at its Birmingham office.
