UK firms land roles on recycling plant first

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), Blake Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons and Martineau Johnson advised on the establishment of the UK’s first recycling plant to produce plastic for food packaging.

The £12m ‘Closed Loop London’ joint private and public sector venture, due to open in December 2007 in Dagenham, Essex, will convert 35,000 tonnes of plastic drinks bottles back into new food packaging each year.

BLP represented Visy Closed Loop, the Australian recycling company that initiated the project. Martineau advised private equity fund manager Foresight Venture Partners, which invested £4.6m in the project. Blake Lapthorn advised Allied Irish Bank (GB), which provided the debt financing.
