The firm has poached Qays Zu'bi, a partner with Bahraini law practice, Al-Mahmood & Zu'bi to head up the new office in Manama.
The new office will focus on banking, infrastructure and other financial transactions in the Gulf. Through Zu'bi, the firm will also have full local litigation and counselling capability covering banking, company and commercial matters.
Zu'bi will be joined in Bahrain by White & Case lawyer, Michael Quigley who is transferring from the firm's Paris office. He is experienced in various international financing matters including oil developments and power projects.
White & Case chairman, James Hurlock says: "Bahrain is a significant financial, commercial, insurance and business centre in the heart of the Gulf region.
"This is a good time to be establishing an on-the-ground presence in Bahrain and to be strengthening our commitment to the Middle East generally."
White & Case has 12 other lawyers based in the Gulf through its association with the law offices of Hassan Mahassni in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah and Riyadh.
