A woman who suffered a series of heart attacks while on holiday in India is suing Wiltshire Health Authority. June Rodway, 64, of Swindon, says she believed the risks of a heart attack or other heart problems had been excluded after she had been treated at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon. But eight days after arriving in Goa, India, she suffered a series of heart attacks and had to be flown back to England in an air ambulance at a cost of £45,000. The writ says she was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital on 27 August 1993 for medical assessment after suffering chest pains a week before her proposed holiday. Her notes recorded a diagnosis of angina, but after a stress test she was told all the results were negative and that if she could walk up a flight of stairs without pain she would be allowed home. She passed this test and was discharged. Mrs Rodway claims the health authority owed her a duty to use reasonable professional skill and care in its medical investigation, assessment and advice, having regard to her travel plans.
