Shearman & Sterling’s London-based projects partner Nigel Thompson has left the firm for Baker Botts’ Dubai office, The Lawyer can reveal.
Thompson, who has been a partner at Shearman since 2000, has already departed the US-headquartered firm, leaving just three partners dedicated to projects in London, including local managing partner Kenneth MacRitchie.
By comparison, Thompson’s arrival doubles Baker Botts’ partner headcount in Dubai. The six-lawyer office opened in 2005. Shearman’s Middle East presence is limited to Abu Dhabi.
Thompson has experience in the energy sector, an area in which Baker Botts has notable strength. At Shearman, he represented Middle Eastern clients such as Marafiq on the landmark $US3.5bn water and power project in Saudi Arabia.
Baker Botts declined to comment and Shearman did not return calls.
