Seven partners left Osborne Clarke in 2004 and the firm made seven lateral hires the year after to replace them. 2006-07 signals a return to the firm’s main strategy of organic growth, promoting eight associates compared with three laterals. The growth comes across all departments, but the cumulative focus for the past three years has been on corporate – seven out of a total of 15. Bristol recruited the lion’s share with eight.

During the three-year period 12 partners have joined the firm through lateral hires, six of which have been in corporate. The firm has addressed the issue of retention by launching a firm-wide bonus scheme as well as a new training programme for all levels.
